It depends heavily on the individual, their circumstances, and their position in recovery. Typically, they spend anywhere from 3 to 12 months in a halfway house; however, they can stay longer if needed. After graduating from New Life recovery house in 2022, he embarked on a mission to pay it forward.

Most insurers cover outpatient programs, and at New Life, young men seeking recovery have access to scholarships under the Harrison Wagner Scholarship Fund. Unlike other rehab aftercare centers and sober living homes, New Life Hosue uses a peer-grouping method that helps those in recovery connect with individuals going through the same life experiences. Peer grouping means creating sober living houses geared towards specific age groups so the young men can better relate with one another. This creates a strong support system when grouping individuals with similar commonalities together who are at similar points in their lives. Peer grouping is built on powerful friendships that help to facilitate recovery and long-term, quality sobriety, and we find this support system extends far beyond the walls of our sober living houses.

Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient rehab in California reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client’s needs and the program’s design. When you enter drug rehab in California, detox is the first step towards becoming drug-free. The detox process includes 24/7 monitoring and medical care and may include the use of medications to ease withdrawal symptoms.

Although New Life Warehouse delivers furniture and other basic necessities, it’s not about the furniture. It’s about hope, and acts of generosity and kindness that can truly make a difference in people’s lives. It’s about sharing the love of Christ in a tangible and personal way. Sober living homes–also referred to as halfway houses–such as ours in Los Angeles are residential homes that provide a drug and alcohol-free environment for people in early recovery. Sober living homes provide the necessary support, encouragement, and safety helpful for recovery. Sober living houses are not halfway houses, and are also called “transitional living” or “recovery residence programs.” We are different from traditional sober living due to our approach and services. We work to provide continuing care after intensive treatment programs.

To add, public transportation within town provides easy access to our halfway houses. For those coming from out of town, Los Angeles offers a central location easily reached by car, plane, bus, and train. While this is a step in the right direction, again, for New Beginning Recovery residents, this model is generally not sufficient. John Twomey came to New Beginning Recovery over 4 years ago from South Carolina. He prides himself being a part of the community, as well as being a part of the guys lives.

Dominic is the Manager at New Life West, and  is a graduate of New Beginning Recovery himself. As such, Dominic has a comprehensive understanding of the program, and a love for helping others actualize their recovery. Outside of the recovery home, Dominic is a passionate skydiver, surfer, and fisher. Allowing you the opportunity to embrace a new environment and build the life and coping skills needed to create the life you deserve.

A good sober living for young adults will help assist them as they transition into independent living. Having a strong supporting mental health component is crucial for young adults, supported by a knowledgeable clinical team. Next, having a structured life skills component allows for a gradual transition to independence. Sebastian has been participating in drug and alcohol treatment and recovery for over a decade, and has a passion for assisting people as they work through areas of life similar to the ones that he has struggled with. Sebastian has worked with New Beginning Recovery in a variety of roles, and spent time both directing the houses and focusing on the alumni, as well as working with the clinical team at Clear Recovery Center. Creating structured programs allow our young men to gain independence, learn life skills and create a network of support while working towards a life they love.

New Beginning Recovery is proud to provide the best substance abuse treatment programs for young men to experience structured sober living in a safe and encouraging environment in Southern California. The goal at each of our sober living houses is to help our members maintain their sobriety when they graduate from one of our sober living houses. Friends and family of house members are encouraged to learn about the structure and philosophies of our sober living in order to help their loved ones continue to use these tools on the outside.
